Young Poker Pro Arrested in Sweden

Unknown poker player detained under serious allegations

An, as yet unidentified, 23-year-old poker player was arrested on Thursday by Swedish police on a warrant issued in July for a range of 20 serious charges including:

• 4 blackmailing cases between June and December 2011.

• 1 robbery in December, 2011

• 1 aggravated robbery or aggravated extortion in June, 2012.

According to Swedish newspaper reports large amounts of cash may be involved in generating games at Pokerstars, and a number of well-known Swedish poker pros were victims of the accused.

The accused denied the guilt, but at least one of the charges is alleged to have used a firearm which seriously aggravates the offence. A Swedish district court in Gothenburg found probable cause for detention so the defendant will soon appear in court.
